Instances where application for the registration or transfer of ownership of a mare could arise:
You are the owner of a mare which has not yet been entered into a section of the Hanoverian studbook. This will apply to Hanoverian branded mares and to mares from other breeding populations that are eligible (see breeding rules – non-Hanoverian mares). In this case the mare will be required to undertake a studbook inspection.
You purchase a mare which has already been entered in one of the stud book sections under a previous owner's name. Please contact the BHHS studbook manager, with details of the mare’s registration number and the name and address of the person from whom the mare was purchased. More details can be found under ‘passports, change of ownership’.
You have a mare which has been entered into the Hanoverian studbook and is registered in your name, and you would like to breed from the mare this season. You will need to register each mare that you intend to breed from in a season. Please contact the studbook manager in order to register mares for breeding, you will also need to be a member of the BHHS.
A covering certificate is issued for every mare that is registered for covering each year. This is sent to the owner of the mare. The covering certificate needs to be completed when a mare has been covered by a stallion. The covering certificate should be sent to the Studbook Manager, BHHS, PO Box 10740, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire NG17 0EF.
