Owned and bred by Cheryl Mitchell from Flax Lion Stud, the Oldenburg registered stallion Samaii has the distinction of being the first British bred coloured stallion to be licensed Oldenburg in Germany and pass both his 30 & 70 day performance tests over there. He was also graded as a Premium stallion by the ZfDP.
While based in Germany he also won young horse Materiale classes and was placed up to L level (Elementary). He was also shown with success in the UK as a youngster, including 2nd in a huge class of yearlings at the BD Breeding Championships.
Samaii is now standing back in the UK at Brackenspa Stud in Lincolnshire

Samaii’s sire Sambertino was successfully 100 day performance tested and lihe his son was awarded scores of 9 & 10 for character and temperament. He competed in young horse dressage classes in Holland, at M level in Germany and qualified for the BD Nationals. His daughter Papillon was a Silver medallist at the World Para championships, and his son Inspector Rebus was on the Canadian Para team. He also produced Grand Prix competitors and successful show horses. He is one of the best sons of the famous Dutch coloured stallion Samber. His damsire Wellington is best known as a producer of top jumpers such as Emillion.
Samaii’s dam is the Elite graded and ex Verden auction mare Berolina. She is also the sire of the WBS(UK) Reserve Champion Stallion Santano (Sandro Hit). Her granddam Adrienne produced licensed stallions Almaden (100 Day Test Reserve Champion), Acambro & Dombek.
Adrienne was the half sister to StPr Dina. StPr Dina is dam to Salvano (sire of stallions Sherlock Holmes & Salieri, the latter being the sire of Anky’s Olympic Champion Salinero). This dam line is one of the most important for Hanoverian breeding tracing back to the Schumann-mare S449 and has also produced leading international show jumpers and Grand Prix dressage horses.
Samaii’s damsire Brentano II, was the Hanoverian Licensing & Performance Test Champion and 2003 ‘Hanoverian Stallion of the Year’. The ‘B’ sire line is enjoying a renaissance at present through the Bolero grandsons Belissimo M and Breitling and Brentano’s own son, the Grand Prix stallion Benetton Dream.
